Abstract:
Many pharmaceutical products are injected into the body or applied to compromised areas. If a product containing microorganisms is introduced into or applied to the body, severe infections may result. Such infections could result in the loss of an organ (e.g., an eye) or a limb, or even death. Consequently, certain pharmaceutical preparations must be sterile and contain preservatives to maintain their sterility. Parenteral medications must also be free of pyrogens and have endotoxin levels within allowable limits.
