Prevention of Sun-Induced Skin Disorders: Introduction

Current research has demonstrated that exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is cumulative and can produce serious, long-term problems, such as premature skin aging. In addition, cumulative exposure from childhood to adulthood, even without a serious sunburn, may predispose a person to develop precancerous and cancerous skin conditions. Avoiding excessive exposure to UVR will reduce the incidence of premature aging of the skin, skin cancer, and other long-term dermatologic effects.
